Median salary in the UAE

The median UAE salary is AED 3,662 a month across the entire workforce, AED 8,926 within the official household-survey frame, and AED 20,010 for white-collar professionals. The median is a far better guide than the average, because a small number of very high earners pull the mean upward.

A mean 2.6 times the median, as in the full-workforce figure, is a signature of extreme dispersion. The UAE's wealth Gini coefficient of 0.82 is the highest in the world.

Why published medians disagree

The UAE Labour Force Survey reports a median near AED 10,000 a month. Wage Protection System coverage indicates over 60% of workers earn below AED 5,000. These are not contradictory: household surveys sample people living in conventional dwellings and systematically miss labour camps and collective accommodation, where a large share of the low-wage workforce lives. Any UAE salary statistic should state which population it describes.
