Is AED 6,000 a good salary in Dubai?

It is a modest salary. It is above the midpoint of the whole workforce but still below the median for people living in conventional households, so among the colleagues and neighbours a reader is likely to be comparing themselves to, it is on the low side. The precise answer depends on which population you compare against, and UAE salary statistics differ by a factor of five depending on that choice, so here are all four at once.

These are gross monthly figures in dirhams, measured among people who work, which is not the same thing as national income per adult. Figures that include non-workers and capital income run much higher and are not comparable to a payslip.

What jobs pay AED 6,000 a month in the UAE?

43 distinct job titles in our dataset of 837 benchmarked roles have a published salary band that contains AED 6,000 a month, across 14 sectors. A sample: AP/AR Accountant, Accountant (junior/SME), Assistant Front Office Manager, Assistant Housekeeping Manager, Beautician, Draftsman, Duty Manager, ER Nurse, English Teacher, Executive Secretary, Financial Accountant, Fire & Safety Officer.

If your own title is on that list, AED 6,000 is a normal market figure rather than a good or bad one. What moves you inside the band is experience, employer size and how tight hiring is in your sector when you negotiate. The salary guide by role gives the full published range for each title.

Can you live on AED 6,000 a month in Dubai?

A one-bedroom apartment in an affordable Dubai community runs about AED 56,000 to AED 61,000 a year, which is 85% of AED 72,000. A one-bedroom of your own is not realistic on this income. Shared accommodation, employer-provided housing or the northern emirates are the practical options, which is exactly why so much of the workforce lives outside Dubai. A mid-tier one-bedroom in Business Bay at around AED 104,000 a year is a different conversation entirely.

Can a family of four live on AED 6,000 in Dubai?

A two-bedroom apartment in one of Dubai's more affordable communities such as Al Nahda or International City runs AED 72,000 to AED 82,000 a year. On AED 72,000 a year that rent alone is more than the entire salary, so a family of four at this income is realistically sharing accommodation, living in Sharjah or Ajman and commuting, or relying on a second income.

School fees are the variable that decides this, not rent. Dubai annual fees average about AED 14,000 per child on the Indian curriculum, AED 42,000 on the American, AED 48,000 on the British and AED 65,000 on the IB. There is no public-school option for expatriate children, so this is a fixed cost rather than a choice.

Is AED 6,000 a good salary in Abu Dhabi or Sharjah?

Better in both, for different reasons. Abu Dhabi pays professional roles about 2% below Dubai but has a wider spread of housing, so the same AED 6,000 generally goes further. Sharjah is the bigger difference: a one-bedroom there runs about AED 37,000 to AED 43,000 a year against AED 56,000 to AED 61,000 in affordable Dubai, so roughly AED 18,000 a year stays in your pocket. The trade is the commute, which at peak times across Al Ittihad Road is substantial and is the reason many people who can afford Dubai still do not choose it.

What is AED 6,000 after tax in Dubai?

AED 6,000. There is no personal income tax on salaries anywhere in the UAE, so for an expatriate employee gross and net are the same number: AED 6,000 a month, AED 72,000 a year, with no statutory payroll deduction. Emirati nationals do have a pension deduction that expatriate staff do not, paid to the GPSSA or, in Abu Dhabi, to the Abu Dhabi Pension Fund. The 9% corporate tax introduced in June 2023 applies to business profits rather than employment income, and the 5% VAT is charged on spending.

How much gratuity does AED 6,000 accrue?

About AED 12,600 after five years of service. Under Article 51 of Federal Decree-Law 33 of 2021, end-of-service gratuity is 21 days of basic wage for each of the first five years and 30 days for each year after that, with a minimum of one year of service. This figure assumes basic pay is 60% of gross, a common UAE split but not a universal one, and gratuity is calculated on basic salary only, so allowances are excluded.

How does AED 6,000 compare with the UAE average and median?

AED 6,000 is about 33% below the median of AED 8,926 for workers in conventional households, which is the frame the official Labour Force Survey covers. Across the entire workforce the median is far lower at AED 3,662, because that count includes labour-camp and collective-household residents. Among white-collar professionals the median is AED 20,010. Published "average UAE salary" figures usually sit somewhere between these and rarely say which population they describe, which is why they disagree with each other so wildly.

What salary puts you in the top 10% or the top 1%?

Across all UAE workers, the top 10% starts at AED 21,674 a month and the top 1% at AED 87,333. Among white-collar professionals the bar is much higher: AED 55,520 for the top 10%.
